Position Description:
The Center for Great Apes is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a permanent refuge and sanctuary for orangutans and chimpanzees in need of long-term life care. The sanctuary is not open as a zoo or tourist attraction, but has established a community education program and serves as a wildlife resource for school outreach programs as well as on-site behavioral study opportunities for students of primatology, anthropology, and related subjects. The primate caregiver position is responsible for animal husbandry, cleaning, training, enrichment, and shifting animals. The Center currently houses 42 apes: 28 chimpanzees and 14 orangutans.

Qualifications/Experience:
Applicants must have at least two years experience with great apes. All applicants must be available any of the seven days of the week, including holidays. Applicants should be in good health, be able to lift 50 lbs, and be able to work outside in the heat, humidity, and weather for several hours at a time.

Additionally, caregiver applicants must have a current tetanus shot and have an annual TB test with proof of a negative result.

Salary/funding:
Salary is based upon experience.

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
On-ground housing may be available.
