Postdoctoral position in auditory neurophysiology: Dept. of Biology, University of Utah.

This NIH-funded postdoctoral position is in Gary Rose’s lab at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah. The general objectives of this research program are to understand how temporal information is represented and decoded in the central nervous system. The specific project, on anuran auditory systems, is aimed at understanding the mechanisms that underlie the selectivity of midbrain neurons to biologically relevant temporal features of sound, and gaining insight into the evolution of communication systems. The work will involve whole-cell patch recording, in vivo, histological procedures to label neurons that have been recorded, microiontophoresis of drugs (to selectively manipulate excitatory or inhibitory inputs) and computational methods.

Our lab is affiliated with the Neuroscience Program, which provides the opportunity for exposure to a wide range of research in neuroethology and neuroscience in general.

The University of Utah is located adjacent to the Wasatch range in northern Utah. Hiking, skiing and fishing are minutes away, and a variety of national parks are a 4-5 hour drive to the south. To apply, please send a CV, statement of research interests, and names and contact information of references to rose@bioscience.utah.edu.
