Position Description:
The laboratory of Jay Hegdé at the Georgia Health Sciences University (GHSU) has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral researcher.

We study the neural mechanisms of visual perception as statistical (Bayesian) inference. We use a variety of research methods, including microelectrode recordings in awake, behaving monkeys, fMRI in humans, human/monkey psychophysics and computational modeling (please see http://www.hegde.us). Strongly motivated, self-driven individuals with prior experience in at least one of these fields and the desire to gain expertise in one or more of the others are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to candidates with prior experience in monkey neurophysiology.

The laboratory is one of several highly collegial and interactive groups at the Brain and Behavior Discovery Institute. The Institute is an exciting new center for systems neuroscience, with plans for rapid expansion in the immediate future. Georgia Health Sciences University has strong research programs in other neuroscientific disciplines, including molecular, cellular and developmental neuroscience, and a variety of related clinical disciplines. Opportunities for research collaborations also exist at the adjacent VA Hospital.

Augusta, the second largest city in Georgia, is renowned internationally for its annual Masters golf tournament. Known as the ‘Garden City’, Augusta features picturesque neighborhoods, low cost of living, and plenty of cultural and recreational opportunities. Larger metropolitan areas such as Atlanta and Columbia, SC are within two hours’ drive, as are many scenic destinations, including the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Atlantic coast.

To apply, please send (i) curriculum vitae and (ii) a cover letter describing research accomplishments and interests, and have two letters of recommendation sent to Jay Hegdé, preferably as email attachments to jhegde@georgiahealth.edu. For informal inquiries, or to set up an appointment at the upcoming Vision Sciences Society meeting, please send an email.

Georgia Health Sciences University is an AA/EEO/Equal Access/ADA Employer.
