Research Technician; Testing genetic models of same-sex sexual behaviour in Drosophila
Nathan Bailey and Mike Ritchie are seeking to appoint a Research Technician to provide research support in the Centre for Evolution, Genes and Genomics within the School of Biology at the University of St Andrews, Scotland. You will be required to organize, maintain and screen lines of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster, perform behavioural observations, assist with performing crosses and collect and maintain data to support the project. You should have a degree in a relevant biological field, and prior experience working with Drosophila melanogaster and/or a background in evolutionary biology or behavioural ecology is highly desirable.
The aim of this project is to empirically test evolutionary explanations for the persistence of same-sex sexual behaviour in animals.
Duration: 18 months. Start Date: 1st June 2011 or by negotiation.
