This one year contractual position of Research Associate is located at Alfred Campus , approximately 65 kilometers east of Ottawa. The mission of the Alfred Organic Dairy Research Centre is the provision of vital research and information on organic milk production for the dairy industry. Its mandate includes the study of reproduction, animal nutrition, animal health, animal behaviour and welfare, milk quality and overall herd productivity.

Research, knowledge transfer and organic dairy extension activities based at Alfred will be done in close association with more traditional programs at other dairy research centers in Ontario, Quebec, and the North-eastern United States. Collaboration is expected with comparable research centres in Europe.

Working under the supervision of the Campus Director, the incumbent will be expected to participate in current research activities, develop new projects and actively seek additional funding for centre activities. He/she will participate in the strategic direction of the Centre, working with an industry-based advisory board to establish research priorities, building partnerships with industry and academia in Canada and around the world, and implementing an outreach and technology transfer program.

Requirements for this position include: a Ph.D. in animal science or related discipline (ex. DVM plus DVSc), and several years’ experience with dairy herd systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional requirements include: experience with alternate systems of management, housing, animal health and welfare and/or nutrition. A commitment to the principles of organic production would be an asset.
