Are you an animal behaviour and care professional with experience in developing and managing training and welfare programmes, and leading high performing teams? Do you want to make a better world for pets by ensuring we remain a centre of excellence in animal care and behaviour? Then we would like to hear from you.

The WALTHAM® Centre for Pet Nutrition is the global hub of pet care and nutritional expertise for Mars Inc. Its remit is to deliver ‘high-quality, innovative science conducted in a caring way’. As our Pet Behaviour and Care Manager you will:

· Drive the development and application of the latest animal behaviour and welfare techniques
· Lead and develop a team of 10 animal welfare specialists
· Actively contribute to, and develop, our expertise in the field of animal behaviour

You will play a critical role in developing and driving our pet behaviour and welfare strategy, to ensure our pet population of 500 cats and dogs is effectively managed and fully cared for. You will manage continuous development of our animal population, including breeding, integration, training and homing, to ensure it meets the needs of our continually evolving research programme. You will develop innovative husbandry and training methodologies and protocols to enhance the lives of our pets, the way we partner with them, and as a result, the quality of our research. In addition, you will provide leadership for the development and implementation of behaviour and care standards for our network of pet centres.

With a primary or higher degree in Animal Behaviour, or a closely related discipline, you must also have:

· a demonstrable passion for animal behaviour and welfare
· experience in developing and implementing animal welfare programmes and standards
· the capability to build high performing teams within this field
· experience in building and leveraging professional networks
· the credibility and gravitas to effectively represent the WALTHAM® Centre for Pet Nutrition within scientific and professional communities and bodies, and across our pet care business

Ideally, we would also like to see evidence that you can establish and execute research studies in the field of animal behaviour and welfare, either independently, or in collaboration with academia or research centres, that will ensure we continually develop our knowledge and capabilities within this field.

If you have the desire and drive to take on new challenges, to expand your knowledge, and have the skills, confidence and leadership skills to ensure we continue to lead the way as a global centre of excellence in behaviour and care, in return, we’ll make sure you get unrivalled opportunities and freedom to grow and develop.
