Position Description:
Project: Intra and intergroup vocal communication in black howler monkeys in Palenque National Park.

Research assistants will work in tandem with a Master´s and a Ph.D student to track and monitor social behaviors and vocal communication in 2-3 groups of black howler monkeys. Data collecting following specialized protocols is expected. Training will be provided. Resting days will be provided on a regular basis.
Qualifications/Experience:
Interest in animal behavior, bioacoustics, primate vocal communication, primate behavior, primate conservation. Tolerance to heat and humidity and long hours in the rainforest and capacity for team work are important qualifications.
Salary/funding:
NO SALARY PROVIDED.
Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
ONLY TRAVEL FROM AND TO THE PROJECT´S HOUSE TO PALENQUE NATIONAL PARK WILL BE COVERED. COST OF FOOD NOT PROVIDED. HOUSING PROVIDED IN FULLY EQUIPPED HOUSE ABOUT 3.5KM FROM PALENQUE NATIONAL PARK. THE HOUSE HAS ELECTRICITY, GAS, TELEPHONE AND HIGH SPEED INTERNET.

This is a field project originating at the field research station Los Tuxtlas of the university of Mexico that unfolds in Palenque National Park, home also to the spectacular ancient Mayan city of Palenque.
